Campaign Archives: Stardust Building Supplies - 1998-99 Check out Stardust Building Supplies New web site. We're building on our first big announcement this year! The 1998-99 Ad 2 Phoenix Public Service Client is (drum roll please)...Stardust Building Supplies! Stardust is a non-profit organization new to the Valley this year. Although located just west of the downtown area, Stardust's opportunities will appeal to a large and diverse audience. Ad 2 Phoenix's Public Service Campaign is one of the most important endeavors we will tackle as a club each year. Not only is this an opportunity for our committee members to showcase their skills and talent, but all of Ad 2 Phoenix can feel proud for providing a much-needed service to a deserving agency. In recent years we have served organizations such as the Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ACBVI), The Arizona Save-a-Life Alliance, Harvest for Humanity, and Aid to the Adoption of Special Kids. We have been able to enhance the identity and recognition of these agencies through new logo design, print ads, radio and tv spots, public relations efforts, and web site design. In addition to our local service, our Public Service campaign has been an opportunity for us to receive numerous awards and recognition nationally. The attention we have garnered from both the National Ad 2 and the American Advertising Federation has created some great momentum and inspiration for this year's Public Service Committee. This year we received over 30 applications from non-profit organizations that learned of our efforts through press releases, word-of-mouth, previous applicants, and targeted communications. Over 20 committee members came together to choose the client. We were specifically looking for a non-profit organization serving the greater Phoenix area with an efficient distribution of services that provides high value for our community. We were looking to address a large and/or diverse population. To determine our best candidate our committee reviewed & evaluated all applications, visited the sites of our 4 finalists, interviewed our 4 finalists, and kept the midnight oil burning to decide who we could best serve. As a committee we have already logged over 100 hours! The only of its kind in Arizona, Stardust Building Supplies collects contributions of new, slightly damaged, and used building materials from homeowners, home builders, and wholesalers. The materials are stored and sold in their Phoenix location, primarily to local low-income families. Any profits this organization might earn are granted to various home development agencies for neighborhood building programs such as Habitat for Humanity and Christmas in April. Tom Fraker, Executive Director of Stardust Building Supplies is excited to share the story that's been in the making for almost two years! "It's the story about a family who buys a house in South Central Phoenix, and then can't afford to replace necessary plumbing. It's also the story of Valley homeowners that are re-decorating and don't know where to recycle their old kitchen cabinets." A homebuilder may find a shipment of windows only slightly scratched, but unsuitable for a new home. All of these items can be spared from the increasing landfills and put into the home of a customer looking to improve the living conditions of their family. Additionally, Stardust is excited to utilize young adults from "at-risk" programs to encourage and develop professional retail skills. Although our path has just begun, we know we will be targeting a large audience with a clear message of this agency's efforts to reduce waste, improve living conditions among low-income families, and their ability to encourage & develop at-risk youth. 1997-1998: Arizona Center For The Blind
