Campaign Archives: Arizona Center For The Blind & Visually Impaired - 1997-98

Founded in 1948, the Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ACBVI) is the only private agency providing comprehensive services to the adult blind and visually impaired community throughout Maricopa County. ACBVI's main focus is the restoration of independence in all daily activities impacted by vision loss. ACBVI provides a number of services including: individual and group counseling, rehabilitation instruction, orientation and mobility instruction, social work, social recreation and assistive technology training.

Mission Statement:
"To enhance the quality of life of people who are blind or otherwise visually impaired."

THE CAMPAIGN
The Public Service Committee set out to achieve a number of objectives on behalf of ACBVI: first to increase awareness of resources available to the blind and visually impaired; next, to educate the public about the incidence and prevalence of visual impairment; and, finally, to establish ACBVI as THE resources for information and referral for all issues related to blindness and visual impairment.

The committee developed a multi-faceted marketing campaign to achieve these objectives. This year's effort included identity redesign, radio and television spots, print ads, a brochure, a poster, Web site redesign, and public affairs activities. New to the Public Service campaign mix were the development of Spanish versions of broadcast and print creative, as well as the creation of a sustainable government relations program for ACBVI.

THE RESULTS
The print and broadcast ads have been running for several weeks. Television spots are airing frequently -- special thanks to Cox Cable. The amount of radio play is also significant -- on KZON, KOY and KYOT. ACBVI's print ads are running in local publications, including Phoenix Magazine, while a guest editorial has appeared in the May issue of Arizona Senior World Newspapers. A handful of special events have generated much support from the community. As a result of this exposure, the client reports a 20% increase in calls for information and referral, and they are distributing dozens of the new brochures each week.

THE EFFORT
Special thanks to all those local businesses that have donated time and services to ensure the success of this year's campaign for ACBVI. Special recognition is in order for the Public Service Committee, without whose unyielding dedication, this year's effort would not have been possible:
