Jos Anshell named 2006 J. Terry Groener Ad Person of the Year

Ad 2 Phoenix has been a part of the Phoenix advertising landscape for more than 50 years and continues to provide opportunities for our industry's future contributors to gain skills in areas such as leadership, public service, and diversity. Ad 2 Phoenix is also the organization that honors the best and brightest each year with the J. Terry Groener Ad 2 Phoenix Ad Person of the Year award.

Ad 2 Phoenix and the entire Phoenix advertising community lost a dear friend when J. Terry Groener passed away.  While Ad 2 Phoenix has been sponsoring this award for decades, it eventually adopted J. Terry Groener's name alongside that of the Ad 2 organization when Terry left us much too soon.

Just as Terry was, the winner must be a contributor to the betterment of the advertising industry; an active participant in community service and presently active in advertising, marketing or communications. This year's winner meets all three of those criteria.  He was nominated by his staff who noted his contributions to causes such as the Upward Foundation, Parents Anonymous and the Arizona Humane Society.  One comment in his nomination talked of him as the Great Encourager who believes in people sometimes more than they do themselves.  He is the co-founder of an agency that donates hundreds of hours annually to pro bono causes while helping students interested in our business through an active internship program.  He has been an inextricable part of the Phoenix advertising landscape for almost 25 years and co-founded the Moses Anshell agency in 1984.  This year’s recipient is Jos Ansell.

Prior to teaming with Louie Moses, Jos gained extensive client and agency experience in marketing, management and finance working for Lever Brothers, Columbia Records, Bristol Corporation, and Fairmont Foods.

While at Lever Brothers in New York, Jos helped clean up America by turning products like Wisk, Dove, All, Lux, and Close-Up into household names. To this day, he still has an unnatural attraction to laundry hampers and rubber gloves.

An optimist and extrovert, Jos enjoys a jam-packed schedule that also includes working with the Phoenix Pride Commission, YMCA, American Heart Association, Rotary, American Marketing Association, Arizona Safety Council, Paradise Valley Hospital, Association for Business Leadership, and the Phoenix Advertising Club. When he has time to breathe, he tries to do so regularly.

Jos graduated with a B.S. in communications from the University of Maryland and an M.S. in marketing from Northwestern University.
